Our Services

Shared Care

Dr Michelle Leadston and Dr Cath Keaney have additional training in pregnancy care and offer shared pregnancy care at Preston Family Medical.

Shared care allows you to have most of your pregnancy appointments with your own doctor, while also attending a public maternity hospital. Depending on where you live, this may be:

  • Mercy Hospital for Women, Heidelberg
  • Northern Hospital, Epping
  • Royal Women’s Hospital, Carlton

Hospital care is provided through the public system, while your appointments at Preston Family Medical are subsidised by Medicare.

Your pregnancy care
Your doctor can help organise and discuss:

  • Blood tests, ultrasounds and genetic screening
  • Your health and your baby’s growth and development
  • Pregnancy symptoms and concerns
  • Government-funded vaccinations during pregnancy
  • Preparing for birth and breastfeeding
  • Contraception and family planning after your baby is born

Shared care gives you the benefit of continuity with a doctor who knows you, together with the support of your maternity hospital.

We can continue looking after you, your newborn and your growing family after the birth.

Planning a pregnancy or already pregnant? Book an appointment with Dr Michelle Leadston or Dr Cath Keaney to discuss shared pregnancy care.
